Final product- Front cover

My front cover has a main image of a close up of Arun. The rock theme is clearly expressed through mise en scene. This entails the elements of the mise en scene, such as the dark- blue bandana with white stylish pattern design. Unconventionally this was worn around Arun's mouth and nose, contributing to the main cover line, 'Arun Unmasked'. Along with the bandana, his messy hair style, bracelet and black jacket also add to the rock style genre.

The typeface of the masthead is Acid label contrasting between the simple Ariel typeface of the anchor credit line. A drop shadow was also used in the button flash to portray a creative feel to the magazine.

The type of media language was also signifiant to attract my target market. Hooks, teasers and freebies were required to lure in the audience, such as 'Behind the scenes', 'Plus' and 'Poster special'. Along with those features, phrases, like 'Anam tells all', 'Zaimar returns', 'the world's biggest supergroup' or 'Burzum back from the brink', all convey the same message and purpose to pull the audience in purchasing the magazine. These hooks are a key attribute, as they allow profits to be made, causing magazine institutions to be successful in business, along with their distributors.

Final product- Contents Page

My contents page attains elements of a rock genre, from the background being a speaker to the typeface of Charlemange Std. These both connote a series of ideas consisting of rock, especially the typeface that seems sharp and evil and suggesting evidence of a rock cultural background.

The main image was positioned on the left side of the page which has been highlighted to stand out from the rest of the content. This is significant as it links with the front cover, expressing an importance towards the audience. An oval was the correct shape to highlight this image as I wanted to create a visual effect by sub consciously making arun a taller and bigger feature on the page.

This was emphasised from the lighting in the oval, which was brighter than the actual page. I also purposely made sure that Arun's belt was showing in the shot, resulting in a division between the his black t- shirt and his dark- grey trousers, along with the blue bandana casually hanging out of this back pocket.

This contributes towards the lighting and the mise- en scene, which was vital to get right. This is because I wanted to create an easy link for the reader and showing Arun is the main feature story. This was enforced from the symbolic dark-blue stylish bandana as it accomplished the link between the front cover, the contents page and the double page spread.

Final product- Double page spread

My finished product of the double page spread consists of having quotes, montage, inserts and text relating to the features of the double page spread.

The double page spread was composed on Photoshop and designed using effects and tools to construct the rock style genre.

The photographs that were required were of my peers enabling me to construct and position the layout of the images. Most of the images are of mid shots, showing clearly to the audience the facial expressions and the clothing the individuals are wearing. This made me consider the faming and composition, trying to keep in mind the rule of thirds. The main image s of Arun, my main subject. From my research of rock magazines some of the main images are in the centre of the double page spread crossing the centre line/spine. However, the image is positioned in such a way that any facial expressions are shown clearly to the audience and not overlapping the spine of the page. This is also shown in my double page spread, making strong consideration and lay out of the image, carefully placing the main image so that the audience can visually see everything on the page without any difficulty.

In this step I began labeling page numbers of the contents, such as Arun on page 26.

More inserts were laid out in a specific style to compliment the positioning of the text.

I have then contributed a title of the contents page, along with the main image of Arun. I also created the image a different aspect by making the audience see the main image through an oval shape. This adds a sense of character and shape seen on the page rather than a normal conventional shot of a long portrait.

I had taken a photo of one of my speakers to a rock/ music background but in a more visual sense towards the audience.

Above is my contents flat plan, consisting of the main image. I specifically took a photograph of arun's back, not showing his facial features. This is because one of the main feature stories my rock magazine is Arun unmasked, hence not revealing his face seems to be very significant.
